CANTERBURY JUNIOR HOCKEY CLUB UNDER 16 BOYS ::: SEASON 2006 - 07 Newsletter - No 4 - Nov 26th 2006 | | U16 NEWS ... Fixtures....Reports..... Pics.. | | | | INTRO | | | | Hi everyone Quite a bit of news. We have a couple of match reports for you and up to date league tables. Also after last week's email all six of your coaches and managers commend you for the much improved attitude, work rate and performance last Monday evening..... well done. Judy apologises for being unable to be there owing to having to travel outside of the county at short notice on Monday evening. After the two under 16 teams losing their first two matches both teams have won their second ones which is very encouraging. As you can see from the League tables below there is a lot of work to do to get back on track this season and whilst last season us and Brom/Becks cut the pace in both the Mercian Premier League and Kent League so this season it is Reading and Guildford in the Mercian and Sutton Valence in the Kent League. Remember that the top two teams qualify for Mercian finals in May 2007. In the Kent League the top four normally play off in semi finals and finals. NB It is likely that there will be a friendly organised against the under 15s before their Cup match on Dec 10th. We hope that plans will be announced at training on Monday Nov 27th. If you are asked to play we very much hope you will make every effort to. Thanks
| | | | MATCH REPORTS | | | KENT UNDER 16 BOYS LEAGUE played on Sunday November 19th 2006 Canterbury u16s vs Gore Court u16s played at Gore Court, Sittingbourne RESULT: Gore Court 3 Canterbury 4 An excellent team performance from the Kent League side saw them take a deserved win in their second match of the season. Due to late retirements Canterbury only had 11 players which meant everyone had to play the whole game leaving them shattered and just holding on to the lead at the end. The first goal came early in the game as Joe put the ball into the bottom corner, Tom quickly got the second putting Canterbury two up, Gore Court then got goals either side of half time to pull level. Owen Holton pulled Canterbury back into the lead 15 minutes into the second half and Gore Court again quickly equalized leaving it to Richard Smith to put the winner away for Canterbury with 5 minutes to go. Brock had a very good game making a number of important saves. Posession in mid-field was fairly even, which meant Charlie L-H and Matt had to work extremely hard in defence. The remainder of the Canterbury team Ben Ludlow, Jamie Hemphrey, Toby and Dominic H-P also all put in solid performances and all played a major part in the result. SQUAD: Joe Blower, Dominic Hudson-Peacock, Toby Green, Mathew Gwyn, Jamie Hemphrey, Owen Holton, Charlie Lloyd-Hughes, Ben Ludlow, Brock Smith (GK), Richard Smith, Tom Whitley MERCIAN UNDER 16 BOYS PREMIER LEAGUE played on Sunday Nov 12th 2006 Canterbury u16s vs Eastcote u16s played at Eastcote HC, Ruislip, Middlesex RESULT: Eastcote 1 Canterbury 4 Canterbury under 16 boys played well away from home under the expert guidance of coach Wendy Tutton to secure three valuable points in the highly competitive Mercian under 16 Premier League against a strong Eastcote team. After the long journey the Canterbury boys took time to settle and in particular find their target. Whilst the Eastcote goalie was put under extreme pressure, numerous shots went just wide or were saved. A half time score of 0-0 was a frustrating one for the visitors but Canterbury skipper Ant Bull lead his team from the front with constant committment and encouragement. However within 5 minutes of the break Ross G-J had fired a fierce shot into the netting and Canterbury visibly relaxed and started to play some controlled passing hockey. Just 2 minutes later Ross started a move which ended in Ollie netting Canterbury's second. Eastcote replied from a penalty corner in the 45th minute and fired up by this strived to achieve the equaliser. However the Canterbury defence of Blowers, Clarkie, BP and JT aided by an extraordinary double save by Diccon kept Eastcote at bay. Playing a commanding game in midfield Andy Suthers with Matt Reeve began to take control again and Canterbury's third goal came when Josh passed wide to Ashers who moved down the right, passd to Bully who raced down the sideline, and hit hard into the circle for Ollie to slot his second and a good team goal. The last goal came 15 minutes from time when from a penalty corner Matt found Ollie on the right post to claim his hatrick and a 4-1 victory.
