news from 2013-14 season

Hardy lot here in CanterburyNational Vets over 35's Champions again!

Chairman’s Report

This season was a mixture of success and disappointment; fortunately the successes outweighed the disappointments.  The first XI under the coaching of Jen Wilson made club history by winning outright the league title, a first we are all justly proud of and securing a place in Europe next year: the venue is yet to be announced but we are hoping for somewhere exciting. The Over 35’s made it 3 in a row by winning the National Finals, they put on a display in the second half that would have been the envy of most national league sides, the Over 45’s in the inaugural year of the competition finished runner up in the plate competition, not bad for the old girls of the club.

The 2nds, 3rds and 3a’s all retained their place in their respective leagues.

I realise that these thanks go on a bit but it is right and proper that we try to make sure that those who “DO” get the recognition they deserve and hopefully get those who “DONT” to start contributing off the pitch as well as on it. I’d love to be able to say that everyone does something for the club, and I hope to make that my mission for coming year, so watch this space as I follow it through.  So please if you know someone who just pitches up to play their game, please try to persuade them to take on just one small task; it could be junior coaching, bar duties, clearing up the tea plates, clearing the bar area of glasses, putting the kids toys away, picking up rubbish, checking the dug outs, running a fund raising event, helping in the kitchen on busy events, or just asking what can I do?
