CANTERBURY tennis at polo farm
“PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL TO FULFIL THEIR AMBITIONS”
We currently have a junior membership of over 200 children with 25 players in the Junior Academy and Senior Academy, many of whom compete regionally, nationally and some even internationally. Over the past few years, players from Canterbury Tennis Academy have won a host of county championships, have represented Kent in County Cup and have competed well at the British National Championships. We have a thriving junior section with a real club atmosphere that offers opportunities to play to children of all ages and standards. These include a weekly club night, in-house matchplays and being part of a team in local leagues. Social events include pizza nights, rounders matches, barbecues and our annual House Cup party. We also provide coaching at a number of primary schools in the Canterbury area. Download a joining form.
Canterbury Tennis at Polo Farm is looking to provide, at an affordable price, opportunities for all. We are determined to help grow the popularity of this fantastic sport, both in Canterbury and beyond. Our comprehensive tennis programme is planned so that all players are engaged in the game, regardless of their reasons for playing, be they social, health, improvement or competition.
Our programme is designed to be inclusive and provides pathways to develop regardless of age and ability; it is regularly reviewed and updated and continual coach training is provided. We are looking to develop life skills in children, including leadership, responsibility and confidence, alongside their tennis skills. We are dedicated to fulfilling potential, whatever it may be.
The indoor centre opened in 2006 giving rise to an expansion in the provision of coaching for children and young people. The arrival of Simon Grieve shortly after marked the start of the programme’s transformation from a place to play to a place to learn.
From just 50 children playing tennis in 2008 Canterbury Tennis Academy now delivers tennis to around 300 children at Polo Farm each week.
