Welcome to the Junior Section pages!

The Junior Section - more correctly Canterbury Junior Hockey Club - is an extremely active part of the local hockey scene. A full programme of coaching, tournaments and matches is now in place for each age group. There are strong links to schools from primary level upwards. Over recent years these efforts have produced "home spun" talent appearing in our most senior teams, and a productive sporting association between the senior schools and our club. Please see the section About CJHC (menu link above).

This part of the web site concerns the junior's section - please see similar but separate sections for Ladies and Mens

Recent News Seven Canterbury Juniors Make the National Age Group Squads Published 30/11/2009
Following the England Futures Tournament last month and subsequent training camps, CjHC is delighted to announce that we have one or more reprentatives in each of the national age group squads.

This is a terrific achievement for those selected and a testament to the hard work of their coaches over several years and the support of their parents. It is also a credit to the way the Mens' and Ladies Hockey Clubs work together with the Junior Section to provide coaching and other support, beginning when these young players start in our mini section, moving through youth coaching, the academies and into the elite coaching structures of the 1st/2nd XI's.

I think I'm correct in saying that no other English Club is as well represented as Canterbury in the Age Group Squads this year. Also, I am told this is the first time we have reprentatives in each squad during the same season.

The players are as follows;

Girls U16 - Eliza Brett, Lucy Hyams, Ellie Kerly and Rebecca Weston

Boys U16 - Jack Balsdon

Girls U18 - Grace Balsdon

Boys U18 - Ross Gilham-Jones

Well done to them all.

President's Day With the Junior Section Published 20/11/2009

Canterbury Hockey Club's annual President's Day was held on Sunday, 15th November with proceedings being initiated with the traditional Junior Section Tournament, which comprised of twelve mixed teams playing in three mini-leagues for individual medals and, overall, for the coveted Kent College Cup.

As per usual the enthusiasm and commitment of over 130 junior players as well as the numerous parents and volunteers who helped run the event, really shone through, and contributed to an excellent morning of mini-hockey.

Teams were named after Canterbury Mens and Ladies 1st team captains and international players who were in attendance to lend support - Kwan Browne (Trinidad & Tobago), Mel Clewlow (GB), Matt Harper and Jen Wilson (South Africa).

On conclusion of the eighteen matches played, the scoreboard revealed the mini-league winners to be:- A League – ‘Clewlow’s Crusaders’, B League – ‘Kwan’s Cougars’ and C League – ‘Harper’s Heroes’. Each winning team received individual medals, as well as a T-shirt memento of the day that was given to all junior participants.

The overall winning team, ‘Harper’s Heroes’, received the Kent College Cup from the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Harry Cragg.

In addition, ‘Fair Play’ awards were presented to Monty Wright, Simone Moxam, Max Liebenschutz-Jones, Martha Briggs, Oliver Weston and Sophia Bashir, for the boy and girl in each mini-league that best exemplified good sportsmanship and enthusiasm on the day, these comprised of a certificate and a hockey ball signed by the 1st team players in attendance.Jamie Crocker and Harriet Williams were adjudged the most promising players and each received a signed mini hockey stick.

The Junior Section duly thanked the sponsors of the tournament, Kent College and Gardner Croft Solicitors, and then enjoyed the remainder of the day’s events.
